Hands on with Star Wars: Super Bombad Racing

Courtesy of IGN

I knew diddlysquat about this one before heading into the LucasArts offices. Eager to hear some good news and hopefully catch an announcement revealing that Star Wars: Obi-Wan was heading to Dreamcast (which I did not, it's unannounced at this point says LucasArts own Heather Twist), I ventured in with fellow friend Jim Rog.
Skipping over Jedi Power Battles (which is official for the DC, but not yet playable in Dreamcast form), we went straight to Super Bombad Racing, and gazed into each others astonished mugs once we saw the game in action. This is a really cool idea!

Running off the PC, Bombad was an enjoyable attention grabber that never would have entered my imagination had I not seen it in person. A cart-based racing game, the premise is definitely one from the lighter side of the Star Wars universe. Set in the time of Episode 1, you can choose from among 8 world famous characters in super-deformed glory:

Darth Maul

Yoda

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Queen Amidala

Boss Nass

Jar Jar Binks

Anakin Skywalker

Sebulba

Every driver will be able to receive special power-ups and use their world famous trademarks in fantastic and zany ways. (Example: Jar Jars power-up allows him to extend his tongue to 10 feet in length and grab hold of the racer in front of him to put him behind Jar Jars cart in the race.)

Jim and I ended up having a blast with the two tracks we had access too. One of them took place on the rooftops of Coruscant, and took us all over the city in every direction imaginable. The other was in the swamps of Naboo and was a less twisted road of beautiful green scenery. Large and interactive, the stages are obviously well thought out. Future levels call for interesting bits of activity; torches that can light Darth Maul's horns on fire and Giant fish that chase your drivers in the underground level are just the beginning.

We ended up spending quite a bit of time horsing around with Super Bombad Racing and look forward to more. A jazzy, carousel-like take on the classical movie series is one interesting ride we look forward to taking more of in the near future. I will keep updated on this exciting game.

Cool: Star Wars: The Very Special Editions?
This is from Digital Bits' Rumor Mill; according to an informant of theirs "there are still several unfinished scenes and sequences from Episode I, the original Star Wars and the other films" and that "what's taking so much time is that ILM actually needs to complete the footage - much of it was never finished originally".

What? Totally new scenes! Now get why I called it the Very Special Editions? Remeber this: "Episode I, the original Star Wars and other films". Could other films mean the Indiana Jones trilogy?
Read the full article (it's worth it!) here. Thanks to TheForce.net for the info!

Lucas: Episode II script complete!
KROQ radio LA had a telephone interview with Lucas this morning and this is what he has said:

ILM is working on the DVD version of Ep1 with extra footage, scenes, etc, but no specific date when it will be out.
He had just finished the Episode II script a few days ago.
He also said hes leaving to get to Australia in about 8 weeks to begin shooting Episode II.

We just got this off TheForce.net (yes, they did it again); and it's amazing news!

What a couple of days; first Christopher Walken, then Lucas' employs a helper for the script and now this. I found the DVD bit interesting too.

Star Wars Origami
Found this very cool site; has pictures of his origami creations of the Falcon, X-Wing, Droidekas (cool!), AT-ST, Tie Fighter, and more.
Check out the Star Wars Origami here.
Also, check out this hilarious parody, Star Folds.

Big Episode II news on StarWars.com
This is Official: George Lucas has written several drafts of the screenplay and set the stage for the action, events and characters to be seen in the movie. To refine the script into its final drafts, Lucas has enlisted the aid of screenwriter Jonathan Hales. Hales and Lucas have had an association through The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Hales wrote or co-wrote several episodes of that critically-acclaimed television series. Other than that he has a couple of films to his name.
Besides this, the Official Site confirms that principal filming will begin in the summer.

Christopher Walken in Episode II?
This bold claim comes from Harry at Ain't it Cool News. He's been known to be right before; and he's been known to be wrong.
For those of you unfamiliar with Walken, he played the Angel Gabriel in all the Prophecy movies, and was in Batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow and Pulp Fiction. Do you see a trend here? A lot of dark films...

He would make a very interesting Jedi; or Sith; if the role is written well. But we can trust Lucas and to do that much!

IGN Movies on TPM VHS
Should you buy the much-hated Pan-n-Scan? Or the Deluxe? Should you buy it at all? This report addresses this; though goes into a long-winded re-review of TPM, which we've heard a million times already. Maul was good, Jar Jar was bad. Anakin too young, Padme too old. Blah, blah, blah...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy only because we've heard it all before. It's a positive report! (More)
