Jedi Power Battles gets bad reviews

GalaxyFarAway Exclusive

Today, I been reading and looking around. I read and saw with my own eyes that Jedi Power Battles is a dud. IGN, GameSpot, and many more say that it is an glitchy game. For instance you think you jumped on solid ground but you fall right through falling to your deaths. I sadly post this but it is true. This game is a dud. Now here is my prediction. Since the Jedi Power Battles is coming to Dreamcast it will be a lot better. I think it will fix all these bugs because the PlayStation couldn't handle the fast action graphics though I may be wrong. But, I think since the Dreamcast is a better system (in the chip) it will be able to handle the game. Now, This is my prediction. So lets hope on it Dreamcast users. I will keep you all updated on this game. By the way if you wanted to know I am getting it on the Dreamcast regardless what the reviews say.

Star Wars: Episode 1 Obi-Wan

Courtesy of IGN

LucasArts is back again and this time they're making another foray into the action gaming arena with the highly anticipated Obi-Wan. The game will put you in control of one of the most powerful and famous Jedi from the Star Wars universe. The story takes its cues from the Phantom Menace and will have you battling across worlds as you control Obi-Wan as he learns new Jedi powers and becomes masterful with the almighty lightsaber. We got a chance to check this game out on the floor today and see it in action a little bit (more on that in a sec).

The main attraction that this game provides is the chance to take control of one of the coolest incarnations in science fiction: the Jedi. And not just any Jedi, but Obi-Wan, a character that has reached mythic proportions. What's that? You need to see a full preview? You don't need to see a full preview…

Okay, bad attempt at a joke, and you'll get your full preview after E3 is done with, but for right now I'll go into a bit of the features and what the game is actually looking like. First off, you won't be using any measly little piddling guns in this game, oh no, you'll be using the weapon that puts the Ginsu knives can cutting abilities to shame, the lightsaber. If you think that the will just be a button pushing hack and slash that most sword fighting games on the PC are, then you are dead wrong. The developers behind this game have thought of a system for using the lightsaber and the other powers that should make the game very interesting to play.

They're calling it a glyph control system. Basically what that means is that when you move your mouse in a certain direction or a certain pattern, then you'll do different moves. For example, an easy one is when you move the mouse up and to the left, Obi will slash up and to the left. It gets more complicated as you learn new tricks, but seems pretty intuitive.

All the fun of being a Jedi, including the flipping and jumping incredible heights and telling people they don't need to see any ID will be available for you to take advantage of. This game is everyone that grew up with Star Wars' dream come true. Let's hope that the final product can hold up to the expectations and demands of those people. At this point, the game is nearing completion and it looks like things are going pretty well. *Insert impressions here.

There is also a multiplayer component to the game. You will be able to take control of a variety of characters in this mode including Qui-Gon Jinn, a Sith Lord, a bounty hunter, a destroyer droid, or a Naboo soldier. Meesa don't have a prayer against a Jedi. I will keep you all updated on this wonderful LucasArts game.

A new game from LucasArts and Lucas Learning

The madcap, break-neck action of big-headed kart racing comes to the Star Wars universe in Star Wars Super Bombad Racing, developed by Lucas Learning Ltd., and distributed by LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC. Expected for release in first quarter 2001 for Sega Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, PC and Macintosh, Super Bombad Racing is a whimsical title that lets players race on various tracks throughout the Star Wars galaxy as way-out versions of their favorite characters.

"Super Bombad Racing is a fun and light-hearted take on Star Wars," says Dave Dresden, director of marketing for Lucas Learning. "The game’s stylized look and humorous approach are a departure from traditional Star Wars games. Though Super Bombad Racing is designed for a younger audience, we’re confident the appeal is much broader. After all, Star Wars fans come in all ages, shapes and sizes."

"We’re glad to support our sister company Lucas Learning, as they create a product that departs from conventional Star Wars games but will develop new market segments," says Mary Bihr, vice president, worldwide sales and marketing for LucasArts.

Super Bombad Racing provides all the high-speed thrills, daring jumps and cool gadgets of kart racing and mixes them into the gravity defying, hyperspace world of Star Wars. Players compete as one of eight Star Wars characters including Darth Maul, Yoda and Boss Nass. Each super-speedy racer has a unique personality, vehicle, racing physics, and animation. The game features more than 25 gadgets and power-ups, including boosts, shields, and special items that perform differently for each racer.

Star Wars Super Bombad Racing features nine tracks in single or multiplayer mode, including the swamps of Naboo, the deserts of Tatooine, and the rooftops of Coruscant. There are four different racing modes including Versus, Co-op, Challenge and Arena.

Super Bombad Racing is Lucas Learning’s first entertainment title for the console market.

Star Wars: Episode 1 Obi-Wan for PC

Star Wars: Episode I Obi-Wan. Expected for release in fall 2000, Obi-Wan immerses players into the role of the young and agile hero as he undertakes the arduous journey from Padawan learner to Jedi Knight.

With only his lightsaber and the Force to aid him, Obi-Wan navigates his way through more than a dozen challenging single player levels as well as numerous multiplay areas. Throughout the course of the game, the legendary character confronts hoards of menacing enemies, including battle droids, Tusken Raiders, destroyer droids, and Sith mercenaries. Obi-Wan culminates in a climactic battle with the Sith Lord Darth Maul.

"Obi-Wan continues in the legacy of the much praised Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, allowing players to control the destiny of one of the galaxy’s greatest heroes," says Joel Dreskin, product marketing manager for LucasArts. "The game represents the next evolution in LucasArts’ lauded 3D engine technology and gives players an opportunity to wield a Jedi Knight’s powers as never before."

Obi-Wan’s journey is the central focus of the game’s storyline, with the events depicted in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace serving as inspiration for many of the missions. Taking on the persona of the famous Jedi, players must be resourceful and master Obi-Wan’s combat prowess and Force powers to protect the innocent and vanquish threats to peace in the galaxy. Undertaking even the earliest missions in the game, players will truly experience the Force abilities, lightsaber skills, agility, and other capabilities of a classically trained Jedi. Ultimately, players will appreciate the trials that a Padawan must endure on the long path to becoming a Jedi Knight.

Obi-Wan captures all the complexity of lightsaber battle through an innovative and intuitive glyph combat system, which relies on intuitive gesture-based movements to allow players to control the Force in ways they’ve never imagined. As players traverse the highly detailed interactive environments, Obi-Wan moves with incredible Jedi agility using realistically-animated flips, rolls and jumps.

The challenges of Obi-Wan will continue on-line with exciting multiplay options, such as Death Match, Protect-the-Queen (Amidala) and others. In multiplayer sessions players can select from Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, a bounty hunter, a destroyer droid, a Naboo soldier or Sith Lord, and clash over the Internet or Local Area Networks.

StarWars: StarFighter For PlayStation 2

The new game from LucasArts is coming out for the PlayStation 2 console. Which will give the game a excellent 3D look. This game is about (well the title almost gives it away) combat in space. Something like Star Wars: Rouge Squadron. But still a lot different.
There will be 20 3D ships and beautifully rendered 3D starships amidst a variety of 14 incredible environments set in air and space.

Star Wars: Episode I Starfighter follows in the long tradition of LucasArts’ highly acclaimed flight combat titles, offering rich game play and a deeply engaging story," says Tom Byron, director of product marketing for LucasArts. "It is a true next generation game for a next generation system that will provide one of the most realistic and visually rewarding interactive entertainment experiences to date.

Star Wars: Starfighter presents an exhilarating story-driven flight adventure, and places players in the roles of one of three mismatched starfighter pilots: Rhys (pronounced Rees) Dallows, Vana Sage and Nym. These three unlikely allies all have personal vendettas against the Trade Federation and must learn to work together to repel the invasion of the Naboo system. To succeed, each character must engage in thrilling dogfights and use their cunning skills to outwit villains.

The game’s compelling narrative is entirely original though it draws inspiration from key points within Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace. As the game progresses, players are presented with a series of challenges that will require the acquisition of new skills. Players who master starfighter combat will be rewarded with new story elements, characters and locations.

Players are introduced to the three main fighter pilots and their craft through a series of intense flight exercises from each character’s point of view. Rhys is a cocky Naboo pilot-in-training. His Naboo N-1 starfighter is quick, agile, adept at dogfighting and armed with proton torpedoes, laser cannons, and deflector shields. Vana is a Naboo expatriate who roams the galaxy contracting her services as a gun for hire. Her ship, the Guardian, is ultra-fast and equipped with stealth capabilities, sensors, tracking devices and a variety of weaponry. Nym, an alien pirate who lives a Robin Hood existence in the shadows of the Naboo system, pilots the Havoc, a starship outfitted with powerful bombs, lasers, a rotating turret gun, and heavy shielding.

Players in Star Wars: Starfighter will be able to test their battle skills against more than 50 vehicles, including Trade Federation drop ships, battle tanks, droid starfighters and never before seen craft such as the deadly Protector, Scarab and Dagger.

Star Wars: Starfighter combines groundbreaking technology, cutting-edge graphics and a compelling narrative, with LucasArts’ well-known expertise in the flight simulation genre. The game’s proprietary 3D engine is capable of rendering truly breathtaking environments, and unprecedented vehicle detail, providing players with an incredible sense of realism.
