Blaster Rifle | Carbon Freezing Chamber | Darth Maul's Lightsaber | Comlink | Dejarik Game Board The standard Imperial sidearm is the
BlasTech E-11 blaster rifle. This weapon has a three-position stock which
allows for optimum bracing during use. Entrenched field troopers typically
lock the stock in its fully open position for protracted firing on a constant
target point. In full assault or unpredictable situations where agility is
key, the stock is kept folded in its fully closed position, as seen here for
the escort of a Rebel prisoner. Carbon freezing chambers are used for the
process of storing Tibanna gas in carbonite to preserve it while it is being
transported over long distances. A number of such chambers are constantly in
use in Bespin's Cloud City. Darth Vader had other ideas, though. Vader's idea was to use the Chamber to freeze Luke Skywalker while he was to be transported to the Emperor. Vader knew that Skywalker would not be easy to capture and transport to the Emperor if he was in a conscious state; as he grew powerful with the force. For this purpose, Vader wanted to test if the Chamber was safe to transport life. Therefore, he tries it on Han Solo before handing him over to Boba Fett to be taken to Jabba the Hutt. Luckily, for Captain Solo, it works. The hand -held comlink supplements a stormtrooper's built-in helmet transmitter/receiver system with improved range and communication security. Comlink sets can be tuned with sophisticated encryption algorithms to work only with each other. Within or near Imperial bases, comlink signals are boosted and relayed automatically for optimal transmission.
The life of a space freighter involves many long hours of space travel, and at Chewbacca's urging the Falcon was equipped with a Dejarik Hologame table. This table projects several kinds of holographic Games on a surface with checkered circles. Dejarik chess pits two teams of assorted creatures against each other in a classic contest of matched but differing abilities.
Pushing his physical and Force-assisted abilities to the utmost, Darth Maul built and uses a double-bladed lightsaber as his primary weapon. Traditionally used only as a training device, the double-ended saber can be much more dangerous to its weilder than an enemy. In the hands of Darth Maul, however, it becomes a whirling vortex of lethal energy. It contains two sets of internal components; one serves as a backup for the other. With this lightsaber, he is equal to two Jedi, who are unprepared for is powers.
